Jonathan is Co-Founder and Business Development Director at Sea Eagle. He is a leading technical innovator with a strong 25 year track record in building companies from scratch, creating and developing innovative technical solutions and achieving exits in the cybersecurity and broadcast industries.
In 2012 Jonathan sold his company Connect TV to Arqiva PLC. As Founder and CTO of Connect TV, Jonathan built the UK’s first hybrid TV channel enabling content providers to gain access to the Freeview audience in a cost-effective way. He stayed at Arqiva as Head of Innovation until 2014 when he left to become an angel investor in a portfolio of start-up companies which now include: Screenhits, DeltaDNA (sold to Unity Software in 2020), TVA Group, Miappi, QuicTools Adapt, Connect Devices and Sea Eagle.
Jonathan founded Connect Devices in 2016 with Callum Wilson and they have been working hard to create the technology and tools that are shaping the future of IoT cybersecurity. In 2019, Connect Devices formed a joint venture with DTG Testing, an accredited test laboratory for CE equipment. The new SafeShark scheme now certifies products against international standards such as ETSI EN 303 645 and Jonathan and Callum are proud that their innovative technology will underpin DCMS’s first-ever cybersecurity legislation.
Always driven by a passion to create something that hasn’t been done before, Jonathan particularly enjoys creating new technologies that will revolutionise TV - and he’s been doing it since 1996 when he started his career at BBC R&D leading the technical development of the BBC’s first interactive services, including the BAFTA-winning Wimbledon Red Button service. He is an experienced trainer with a reputation for his infectious enthusiasm, depth of knowledge and ability to explain complex technology, both current and future, to creative people.
